BROOKLYN COMES TO ROCKLAND COUNTY

For those who have not been following this sad story in the papers, the Town Board of Ramapo is about to grant a Zone Change to the area on the southwest corner of Routes 202 and 306, known as Patrick Farm to substantially "downzone" the area so it can be developed with a tremendous density, similar to the villages of Kaser and New Square in Ramapo. Many residents of Ramapo believe that Ramapo Supervisor Chris Saint Lawrence is doing this to accommodate the voting bloc of the Hasidic and Orthodox communities in Ramapo. Click here to see the development map supplied by the developer.

What does this have to do with Stony Point? Also very much in the news is the proposed desalination plant United Water wants to construct in Haverstraw. UW has given the developers of Patrick Farm a letter stating that they can supply enough water for this enormous development. It is unclear whether or not this can be done without the desal plant, which would mean all of us in Rockland would pay for the development of the water supply for the developer - including residents of Stony Point.

Stony Point's town board has gone on record as opposing the desal plant, which we applaud. Where is this going? Probably an Article 78 as there are many irregularities in the environmental review! SPACE has sent this letter to the Ramapo town board. Read more here from www.preserveramapo.com
